Step back in time – Somerset Steam and Country Show 2022

Step back in time – Somerset Steam and Country Show 2022

The Somerset Traction Engine Club are delighted to be back on 16th -17th July with the Somerset Steam and Country Show for 2022, in Lowham near Langport.

The Show is all about stepping back in time, whether that be living history reenactment groups, a steam traction engine from the time of Queen Victoria or a first of the big 1980’s tractors. We will also be encouraging our exhibitors to dress in the period of their exhibit to give the full insight into the time, and we extend that invitation to the public too. In 2019 the displays were brought to life with the costumes people dressed in, and we thank all those who took part. (We highly recommend you look at our Facebook page for the hundreds of photos taken).

Arriving at the Show, you will be welcomed by the gentle nostalgic sounds of a traditional organ. You can hitch a trailer ride behind a vintage tractor or steam engine, look around the stalls and craft tent, take the children to the free children’s area, get a selfie with that car or tractor you remember from your childhood or watch a show from the living history group.. With plenty of local suppliers on site for food and drinks the day can be enjoyed at your own pace, taking in the beautiful sights, sounds and smells. Whilst the Show aims to preserve and exhibit country and rural heritage, we hope it will also inspire the next generation of engineering and heritage enthusiasts. Maybe next time you are at our Show you will be exhibiting something of your own.

We are proud at Somerset Steam and Country Show that the show is run by local volunteers, with the help of the Somerset Carnival Clubs, to put on a friendly and noncommercial event. You will even find the landowners running the craft tent or delivering water to the steam engines, all set in a picturesque Somerset landscape overlooking the Levels.

The children’s area will grow even more this year with more free activities, including 2 free bouncy castles and a steam engine and a tractor that children or adults can get that great social media picture with a steam engine or vintage tractor. We will also have our brilliant sand pit and tractor play zone.
